The Shanmaya Promise
Authenticity Begins with Trust
A Kanchipuram silk saree carries more than visual beauty. It reflects generations of weaving knowledge, regional tradition, skilled craftsmanship, and the distinctive richness of silk and zari.
At Shanmaya, authenticity means representing every saree honestly. We are committed to describing each piece as accurately as possible, disclosing important product details, and avoiding claims that cannot be supported.
Our goal is to help every customer purchase with clarity, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind the saree.
Where It Begins
Carefully Sourced Collections
Shanmaya collections are thoughtfully curated through established sourcing relationships in India, with attention to weave, silk quality, construction, zari, color, finish, and overall craftsmanship.
We seek sarees that reflect the character and elegance associated with traditional Kanchipuram weaving while remaining suitable for the expectations of today’s customer.
Our sourcing approach includes:
- Working with trusted weaving, retail, cooperative, or supplier relationships
- Reviewing product details before a saree is offered for sale
- Seeking clarity about silk, zari, construction, and origin
- Selecting pieces that meet Shanmaya’s standards for quality and presentation
- Avoiding unsupported or misleading product claims
Because sourcing documentation may vary by saree and supplier, any certificate, label, or mark will be described only when it is actually included with that specific saree.
Quality with Intention
What We Review
Before a saree becomes part of a Shanmaya collection, it is reviewed for both beauty and quality.
01Silk & Texture
We review the feel, body, drape, luster, and overall character of the silk.
02Weave & Construction
We examine the saree for consistency, visible weaving quality, borders, pallu construction, and finishing.
03Zari & Detailing
We review the appearance, placement, workmanship, and condition of the zari and decorative elements.
04Color & Presentation
We assess color harmony, overall finish, visual balance, and suitability for the intended collection.
05Condition
We inspect for visible stains, damage, weaving irregularities, loose threads, or other concerns that should be disclosed.
06Product Information
We confirm that the product description reflects the information available to us at the time of listing.
Clarity in Every Detail
Every product page should help customers understand what they are purchasing.
Where available and relevant, Shanmaya product descriptions may include:
- Saree type
- Fiber content or silk description, as supported
- Country of origin
- Color
- Border and pallu details
- Zari description, as supported
- Motifs or design features
- Approximate saree length
- Blouse piece information
- Weave or production details
- Care recommendations
- Included labels, certificates, or documentation
- Natural variations or visible characteristics
We will not describe a saree as certified, handloom, Silk Mark, GI-tagged, pure zari, tested, or otherwise officially verified unless the corresponding documentation or reliable product-specific basis is available. A Silk Mark claim and a Kancheepuram geographical-indication claim are separate and will not be treated as interchangeable.
Photographs may display differently across screens. We aim to represent colors and details as faithfully as possible, while acknowledging that lighting, photography, and device settings may create slight variation.
The Human Hand
Understanding Natural Variations
Handwoven and traditionally produced textiles may carry subtle variations that reflect the human process behind their creation.
These may include:
- Minor variations in weave
- Slight differences in thread alignment
- Subtle changes in motif placement
- Small irregularities in texture
- Natural variation in color or sheen
- Minor finishing marks associated with weaving and handling
Such characteristics are not necessarily defects. They may be part of the individuality and handmade character of the saree.
However, significant damage, staining, incorrect fulfillment, or undisclosed condition issues should not be treated as natural variation and should be reported to Shanmaya promptly.
Documentation
Labels, Marks & Certificates
Some sarees may be accompanied by labels, tags, supplier documentation, Silk Mark information, cooperative labels, or other product-specific materials.
Shanmaya will identify such documentation only when it is actually provided with the saree.
When Documentation Is Included
The product listing should state what is included, and the available documentation should be delivered with the saree whenever appropriate. When a numbered Silk Mark label is included, Shanmaya should preserve and disclose that product-specific label information so the customer can use the official authentication service.
When Documentation Is Not Included
The absence of a particular tag or certificate should not be concealed or replaced with an unsupported claim. Customers are welcome to contact us for clarification before purchasing.
Silk Mark assurance concerns natural silk; it does not certify zari purity or composition. Shanmaya does not independently issue government certifications, Silk Mark labels, GI certificates, laboratory reports, or weaving-society documentation.
Before It Reaches You
Our Quality Inspection
Before shipment, each saree is carefully reviewed to help ensure that the item matches its listing and is ready to be presented to the customer.
- Step 1
Product Review
The saree is checked against its available product information.
- Step 2
Condition Check
The saree is inspected for visible damage, stains, major weaving concerns, or fulfillment issues.
- Step 3
Presentation
The saree is folded and prepared with attention to its silk, border, pallu, and overall presentation.
- Step 4
Final Order Check
The order is confirmed before packaging to reduce the risk of an incorrect item being sent.
Quality inspection supports accurate fulfillment and presentation. It does not replace textile laboratory testing or an official certification process.

A Note on Authenticity
Authenticity and Natural Variation
Authenticity does not mean that every handwoven saree will be mechanically identical or entirely free from minor irregularity.
Likewise, appearance alone cannot confirm every technical detail about silk, zari, dye, weaving process, or geographic certification.
Shanmaya’s guarantee is a commitment to honest sourcing, responsible representation, quality review, and transparency based on the information and documentation available for each saree.
